What is softwashing?

Softwashing is a cleaning method that uses low-pressure water and specialized cleaning solutions to clean exterior surfaces such as roofs, siding, decks, and patios. Unlike pressure washing, which uses high-pressure water to blast away dirt and grime, softwashing uses a gentle spray and biodegradable cleaning solutions to safely remove buildup and stains caused by mold, algae, and other organic materials. The low-pressure spray helps to protect delicate surfaces from damage while effectively removing dirt and grime. Softwashing is often used to clean roofs and exterior surfaces of homes, buildings, and other structures, and is considered a more eco-friendly and effective alternative to traditional pressure washing methods.

To prepare concrete for power washing, you should follow these steps:

1. Clear the area: Remove any furniture, plants, or other items that may be in the way of the power washer.
2. Protect surrounding surfaces: Cover nearby plants, electrical outlets, and windows with plastic sheeting to prevent damage from water or cleaning solution.
3. Repair cracks: Fill any cracks in the concrete with a concrete repair product to prevent further damage from the high-pressure water.
4. Remove loose debris: Sweep or rake any loose debris, leaves, or other items from the surface of the concrete.
5. Mix cleaning solution: Mix a concrete-specific cleaning solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Apply cleaning solution: Apply the cleaning solution to the concrete surface using a spray bottle or garden sprayer.
